Church Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Three-Hour Certificate Seminar
Churches are more than places of worship. They may also serve as classrooms, childcare spaces, kitchens, offices, meeting facilities, community centers, shelters, and gathering places for people of every age and ability.
Each of these activities creates different safety responsibilities. Aging facilities, limited resources, changing volunteers, crowded events, electrical hazards, blocked exits, medical emergencies, severe weather, security concerns, and incomplete emergency plans can place people and property at risk.
Safety 360’s Church Safety & Emergency Preparedness Seminar helps church leaders recognize these risks and take practical steps to address them.
Practical Training Designed for Churches
This three-hour certificate seminar is designed specifically for houses of worship. It is not a generic workplace safety presentation.
Participants learn how to look at their church through the eyes of an experienced first responder, firefighter, paramedic, and fire investigator. The seminar examines the conditions, activities, and emergencies that churches are most likely to encounter—and provides practical guidance that can be applied immediately.
The goal is not to create fear or add unnecessary complexity. It is to help each church establish a manageable, consistent approach to protecting its congregation, employees, volunteers, visitors, property, and ministry.

A Comprehensive Church Safety Checklist
Each represented church receives Safety 360’s 230-page Faith-Based Facility Safety & Emergency Preparedness Checklist.
The checklist is organized around applicable OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, and recognized fire, life-safety, and emergency-preparedness practices. It addresses the distinctive ways churches use their facilities and helps leaders:
- Conduct consistent safety walkthroughs.
- Identify hazards before an injury or emergency occurs.
- Document inspections and corrective actions.
- Evaluate existing policies and emergency procedures.
- Assign responsibilities to employees and volunteers.
- Track concerns that require maintenance or professional evaluation.
- Build a practical, ongoing safety program.
The checklist can be used long after the seminar as a working resource for trustees, facility committees, administrators, safety teams, and church leaders.
Who Should Attend?
The seminar is valuable for:
- Pastors and church administrators.
- Trustees and property committees.
- Facility and maintenance personnel.
- Safety and security teams.
- Ushers and hospitality leaders.
- Children’s and youth ministry leaders.
- Ministry staff and volunteers.
- Anyone responsible for the safety of the congregation or facility.
Churches of every denomination are welcome. The program is applicable to traditional church buildings as well as congregations meeting in schools, rented facilities, storefronts, or community centers.
Strengthen the Plan You Already Have
Some churches are just beginning to develop a safety program. Others already have emergency plans, trained teams, and established procedures.
Regardless of your church’s current level of preparedness, there is always something to learn, reinforce, document, or improve. The seminar provides continuing education that helps participants evaluate current practices, identify overlooked concerns, and strengthen the work already being done.
Every participant receives a certificate of completion.
Experienced, Real-World Instruction
Safety 360 is led by Ed Mackey, a lifelong public-service professional and active church member with more than 40 years of experience as a first responder, firefighter, paramedic, and fire investigator.
The seminar brings that experience into a practical church setting—helping leaders understand not only what can go wrong, but also what they can do before, during, and after an emergency.
Bring Church Safety Training to Your Community
Churches may attend a regional Safety 360 seminar or serve as a host location for neighboring congregations. Hosting provides an opportunity to bring pastors, trustees, staff members, volunteers, and safety leaders together for practical training and shared learning.
